Grant Applications | Now Open | Applications close on 30 September each year

What Do We Fund

  • Education and research focused on indigenous South African flora and environmental factors affecting it.
  • Studies on natural environmental factors, control of alien invasive plants, and conservation efforts for indigenous plant species.
  • Publications that promote awareness and understanding of South Africa’s indigenous flora.
  • Projects that advance the conservation and promotion of indigenous plants in South Africa, taxonomic studies, and research on threatened species.
  • Applicants must be South African citizens or holders of permanent residence permits. The applicant must also be the primary executor of the project for which funding is being requested.
  • For associations, preference will be given to registered Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs) or Public Benefit Organisations (PBOs), provided they are registered in the Republic of South Africa.
  • The cost of clearing of alien vegetation is only considered in exceptional circumstances, as indigenous vegetation in general should benefit and not only a small geographical area.
  • Smaller funding requests, with awards generally not exceeding R40 000, will receive preference.
  • Suitable applications for funding are invited from any part of South Africa.
